DFSMSrmm Implementation and Control

This course teaches the implementation and control of DFSMSrmm.

This course is intended for all those who may be concerned with planning for, implementing, or managing tape data using DFSMSrmm (a component of z/OS DFSMS). As such it is suitable for System Programmers, Storage Administrators and all those who share with them the management of the installation's data. Personnel responsible for implementing DFRMM may also find the course beneficial.

Delegates should ideally have attended our z/OS for Beginners and z/OS Storage Management Fundamentals courses, or have a similar level of knowledge or experience.

On completion of this course delegates will be able to:

  • List the areas in which DFSMS/MVS benefits the installation.
  • Explain the overall concept of DFSMSrmm.
  • Select the right DFSMSrmm options for your installation.
  • Create a control data set and journal for DFSMSrmm.
  • Define DFSMSrmm tape policies (Vital Record Specifications - VRS) for retention and movement.
  • Create procedures for:
    • Starting DFSMSrmm.
