This course represents the ideal starting point for ANYONE who wants to work within the z/OS environment. It has extensive hands-on labs to ensure the attendees are motivated and involved. On completion, the participant should be able to use TSO, ISPF / PDF, USS, manage JCL, System utilities, and be able to read REXX and CLIST.
Audience
Future Operators, Systems Programmers and Administrators who want to learn the basic features of the z/OS platform. This is also the first course in our short z/OS Academy focusing on core Z/OS.
Prerequisites
No previous knowledge is required. Strong motivation to learn new technology is recommended.

- Basic hardware, CP, memory, channels, disk, tape, OSA etc
- LPAR, allocation of resources
- Parallel SYSPLEX, components CF, couple data sets, XCF etc
- Basic structure and concepts
- Data storage format, directory, VTOC, VSAM etc
- Basics of System Managed Storage (SMS)
- Data Security, RACF
- Overview of commonly used products in the z/OS environment
- Use of TSO, ISPF / PDF, USS
- Use of JCL and procedures
- Use of System Utilities
- The basics of REXX and CLIST
