HCD and Dynamic Reconfiguration

Code: HCDDR

Description

This course is aimed at systems programmers, hardware planners or senior operations staff responsible for planning, defining and controlling the I/O configuration of z/OS systems. Course material also covers the recent multiple logical channel subsystems of the z9 range of processors and FICON updates.

Audience

This course is aimed at systems programmers, hardware planners or senior operations staff responsible for planning, defining and controlling the I/O configuration of z/OS systems. Course material also covers the recent multiple logical channel subsystems of the z9 range of processors and FICON updates.

Prerequisites

Delegates should be familiar with the z/OS environment, TSO and basic I/O configurations. This can be obtained by attending our z/OS for Beginners course.

Objectives

On completion of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Describe the components of a z/OS configuration.
  • Explain the benefits of LPARs and Logical channel subsystems.
  • FICON and ESCON Channel paths and Directors.
  • Control units and Devices.
  • Use HCD to view, define and modify I/O definitions within the z/OS installation.
  • Plan and implement a strategy for HCD within a z/OS environment and use dynamic reconfiguration within the installation.
